Mimo – Pantomime Theatre (Poland)
The House of my Dreams
June 29, at 9 pm, Centrum Praskie Koneser
The Mimo Pantomime Theatre was founded in 2002 by Bartłomiej Ostapczuk as a theatre of one actor, but it quickly transformed into a theatre company. The actors’ artistic search resulted in the development of their own dramatic language, in which the artists try to combine the most important elements of the art introduced by the key creators and reformers of contemporary pantomime.
In their work they use movement and gesture to express the essence of feelings and emotions, while not shunning a bit of absurdity here and there. While keeping to the principles of pantomime art, they want the only limits to be the limits of their imagination.
Since 2002, the theatre has presented 12 premieres, mainly stage performances. Since 2010, the company has been producing outdoor performances, sharing their belief that the art of pantomime is able to fully exist in a space different than the theatre building. Mimo Theatre presents their spectacles at theatre festivals in Poland and abroad.
The actors cooperate with the Warsaw Pantomime Centre, where they have been improving their skills for years, learning the art of modern pantomime.
They also perform in dramatic theatres and opera houses in Warsaw.
Mimo Theatre is a part of the Warsaw Pantomime Centre, which actively supports the development of this art form in our country.
From the director's statement:
„Our goal is to create performances without borders. For the first time in the history of our theatre, we will combine pantomime with the mask theatre. In our work, we create a language that transcends words, a language that provides entertainment, but also excitement. We rely mainly on the medium of pantomime and gestures, and the masks will serve as a link to the world, to poetry and images. Expressive, precise, full of life – they open the door of imagination and take us to a world where everything is possible. Acting activities contain elements of improvisation, which gives us the possibility of direct interaction with the audience and engaging the spectators in the world created by the actors.”.
A House of my Dreams is a subtle tale about seemingly everyday matters. It is a gallery of diverse, often funny characters in a simple story - a "mosaic of life".
We watch a couple who used to have beautiful mutual feelings, and are now more and more indifferent to each other. However, something is going to happen that will change this state and open a new stage in their relationship. It will be a journey through memories, slow self-discovery and coming to understand everything that seemed bizarre at first.
